How to prepare for Christmas in November
What is the very first thing to do to prepare for Christmas? Gifts list or guest list? Wait, is your house ready to welcome guests AND gifts? Here’s what to do so that you enjoy the holidays without overwhelm, guilt, last minute stress and panic!
As much as I hate seeing the supermarkets displaying Christmas produce the next day after Halloween, it does give me the signal to start my way of preparing for the holiday season. And no, is not making a gifts list! But looking at what I can do to get the house ready for guests and gifts.
Declutter Your home
There are soo many reasons to do a pre holiday declutter! Now is the perfect time to assess what you no longer need or use. A clutter-free home will make decorating so much more fun, and you’ll feel a sense of calm and order when guests come over.
In 2024, decluttering does no longer mean bags and bags of trash going to the landfills. Slowly but surely, sustainability and ethical shopping has gain the attention of soo many that by now, everybody does their bit to reuse, repurpose or recycle their stuff. People are increasingly taking responsibility for the things that go through their homes and lives.
But if you are not keen to ride this wave for whatever reason, an alternative way to live sustainably is selling anything that you no longer need or use. And when I mean anything, anything goes! Either an unwanted gift, barely used item or used and cared for piece of clothing or toy can be a treasure find for someone else.
Selling on Ebay, Vinted or any marketplace is giving way to a circular economy, a world where the life cycle of products is extended as long as possible. And at the same time, the profit or earnings you get from selling can be the bonus that you need to get that special experience or handmade gift to someone you love!
Equally important, getting organized for Christmas should also start with setting up a budget, because if you start with a gift list and a guests list, you will end up with your money reserves running dry come January! Can you now see how decluttering should be the first thing you should do in the long list of Christmas preparations? Decluttering and selling what you don’t need or want easily support all the following steps in getting ready for Christmas!
The slow and steady approach to selling on eBay
We are not adding decluttering to our to do list to start early with the overwhelm. We are not talking about a full-blown Marie Kondo overhaul (unless you’re into that) but a more sustainable and motivational way to enjoy the process!
If you are anything like me (gifted with an ADHD brain), you benefit from making a game out of the boring tasks you need to do to get the job done while also having fun!
The Ebay Selling Tracker turns a dreading decluttering goal into a simple way to visualize your efforts while keeping count of your profit at the end of the month. Ebay is free to sell right now so this makes it so easy:
On each tracker, there are not an equal number of doodles for each day of the month (30 doodles only) because this is not a challenge but more a little habit of listing 1 item, which I found is enough to make a difference. This is not meant to take over or drastically change our lives but slowly prepare our homes for Christmas. If you manage to list and sell more than it fits into a page, feel free to use 2 or more pages. Make sure to report back so that we are all cheering you on!

The fun part is colouring in the doodles once you sell the items! Wahoo!
This simple tracker has really motivated me to get myself together and list 1 item every second day in October, while commuting to my work and giving it some time throughout the weekend to take pictures. I was so excited when I saw how much I made!
Do you think a month might not enough or do you feel like taking this beyond a simple pre holiday goal? I sure will! So I went all out and designed trackers for every month of the year, a total of 12 themed monthly trackers! You can purchase them from my Etsy shop, by clicking on the image below:
